My name is Eric Newman. I was born and raised in New Orleans. I first got interested in music in high school discovering blues rock guitar. My first year of college I was in Mississippi where I learned blues songs by Robert Johnson and others. I had those songs and a Bob Dylan songbook that I started out with. I was in cover bands for years, playing Beatles, Stones, Kinks, all the classic rock and oldie stuff. But I needed to find my own voice. I started writing songs in college and continued to try to make them better. Part of this process was working on a low budget DIY process, so I learned to play other instruments enough to record. I learned mixing, mastering, how to produce my own songs. That process is ongoing as well as being a one man marketing team. I have no one style of music. I think Santana was asked what is "good music" and he responded "sincere music". I also learned that a good pop song is a three minute movie. With those rules as a framework to break, I try to create something new, although it may sometimes be cinematic, tongue in cheek, playful, or even experimental. Mainly it keeps me off the streets. I hope you have time to listen. Cheers!
